Today we were granted a golden opportunity to dive into the majestic world of dance, and what a spectacle it turned out to be! As part of the grand preparations of Samanvay 2024, we had the chance to observe the talented dancing pirates in action. We saw them practicing their moves, footsteps, and rhythmic coordination- making the energy in the room electric.

The rehearsal began with the pirates practicing their intricate moves. It was clear that hours of dedication and hard work had gone into perfecting the dance routine. The dancers’ enthusiasm was contagious, and you could feel the excitement building in the air.

But not all of the pirate crew was so focused! In between practicing their moves, we noticed a few dancers slipping away for some "downtime." We caught a few dancers attempting math worksheets- clearly trying to keep their minds sharp, while others were playing a fierce game of UNO. Amid the excitement, the decibel level remained controlled in the room, until of course the teacher needed to step out of the classroom for some time. Not breaking rules is something that a pirate cannot do, almost all the sneaky pirates were eating while pretending to check their almanac.

Despite these playful distractions, the crew managed to keep things together, displaying good discipline for most of the 45 minutes we were there. It was a delightful mix of focus, creativity, and a healthy dose of mischief that made the rehearsal so entertaining.

So if you want to witness the magic that these pirates are brewing, mark your calendars for the 20th and 21st of December, and get ready to be swept away by the adventure!

Today we delved into the magical world of sound, a world where the minutest discrepancies can take a toll on the outcome of the work. We observed the sound team in two of their main workspaces, the IT lab and the Sound Lab where there seemed to be a bunch of hiccups in their progress. We watched as Prashast Kumar was overcoming obstacles on Band Lab, the software they were using. Prashast said, “Band Lab is a good software but the drum machine component is getting on my nerves. It is so frustrating because it doesn’t play the sounds.”

We looked on and questioned them about their strategy, which could have only led to one possible conclusion. They shared that the best way to complete a task swiftly was to divide a task so that everyone knows what they have to do and can do it with minimal questioning and discussion, a tactic which they undoubtedly employed. This was visible when one of the members entered the Sound Lab a while after the others but knew exactly what he had to do, proving the statement , ‘teamwork makes the dream work’ correct.

The students told us that they had joined the Sound team with the thought that they would just record sound and create beats and music but they had actually grown as a group, strengthened their bonds and have pushed each other to achieve the best they can do. We can only conclude by saying, by incorporating collaboration, and healthy and constructive criticism into their working process, all problems, ranging from which sound effect to use to the annoying drum machine and how it didn’t play the sound, were solved. Our visit to their group equipped us with a newfound appreciation for the work they do and we hope that reading this article has instigated the same in you.

If you were to step into the Dance Room on the third day of Samanvay practice, the first thing that would greet you is the sweet sound of laughter. That was the atmosphere we experienced during our many observational visits to the venue—laughter, chatter, and a sense of excitement filled the air as dancers relaxed, prepared, and got ready for their turn to practice.

It was clear that everyone was having fun. Some were reading, others chatting with friends, while a few were even sketching, using their downtime creatively as they waited for their turn. You just had to be there to feel the energy and enthusiasm that filled the space. Now, let me paint you a picture of the room: it was neat and orderly, with the shoes and bags of all the students neatly lined up against the wall. The rest of the room was mostly empty, except for the back wall, where students were seated on mats and mattresses, chatting and stretching in anticipation.

But as soon as the music starts and practice begins, the mood shifts dramatically. The once lively room suddenly falls into a profound silence, with all the chatter and laughter giving way to an intense focus. The energy of the room transforms as the dancers prepare to perform, and the atmosphere becomes charged with anticipation. The powerful beats of the music take over, and suddenly, the dancers are fully immersed in their routine. Their expressions are focused, their bodies move with precision, and there's an undeniable energy that fills the space.

Despite their concentration, the first few runs of the dance are a little uncoordinated. But that's the beauty of the rehearsal process—it's all about practice, refining each movement, and working towards perfection. You can sense that, with time, this dance will become a showstopping performance, each movement flowing seamlessly into the next. The routine may be fast-paced, but it’s also a representation of something deeper: the pressure that comes with expectations, much like the experience of Wendy from Peter Pan, who feels the weight of responsibility in her life.

The Dance Room, with all its energy, is truly the place to be for those who express themselves through intricate movement. As the dancers work through the steps, you can feel the pressure, the passion, and the excitement building in every motion. This performance is sure to be something incredible, and we can't wait to see it all come together in the final show!

In a fresh take of J.M Barrie’s beloved classic, Samanvay 2024 is aiming to capture the essence of modern lifestyles, embodied in the characters, while still embracing the prime feeling of wonder and joy of the original story throughout the show. It incorporates modern culture and technology, which has taken over current generations.

Samanvay 2024 has jaw-dropping sets, acts, dances and many more. The key to a successful show is the cooperation and enthusiasm of every student in Middle School. Each student plays a significant role in the assembly, whether they have one line or the lead role in drama.

The journey to Samanvay has been marked by dedication, enthusiasm, and a touch of chaos. The cast and crew dedicated many Saturdays to rehearsals, to bring the enchanting world of Peter Pan to life. Each day presented its own set of challenges—actors memorizing lines, dancers refining their choreography, and the technical team troubleshooting lighting and sound. There were instances when things became somewhat chaotic—props malfunctioned, there were technical errors, or the set needed rearrangement—but everyone united to ensure everything came together.

Samanvay 2024 was a first for me. I was introduced to different concepts including extremely tiring practices, limited time to learn choreography and the absence of studies. Personally I would say that during rehearsals, I experienced a rollercoaster of emotions, including anxiety and worry. I had all these thoughts, during stage practices, “What if I mess up?” or “What if I get removed from the dance?” Yes, I did fumble on steps which may have made others frustrated(because then we had to restart), but I knew that in the end all those scoldings and judgemental looks would just make us better at what we’re doing.

I look forward to Samanvay 2025 already, but right now the success of Samanvay 2024 is all that matters.

P.S- Seeing everyone practicing, laughing and chatting gave me a sense of what middle school is all about, making me understand it’s not all about grades and studies, but a hint of fun and enjoyment as well. I am forever grateful for being a part of MSFE and hope that the next 6th grade enjoys it just as much as I did!

Today, we had the opportunity to observe two talented photographers, Yogesh and Samarjit, at work in the art room. They are part of a dynamic team, capturing the creative process of the artists at work. Every alternate day, including today, they visit the art room to photograph the artists in action, as well as the final artwork. They were there until noon, working diligently to capture the best shots, though not always behind the camera at the same time.

Yogesh was primarily in charge of taking the pictures, while Samarjit played a crucial supporting role. His main task was to use a reflector tool to bounce light onto the painting or subject, enhancing the quality of the shots. However, today, the lighting in the art room wasn’t ideal, so there wasn’t much light to reflect, which made their job a bit more challenging. Despite the lighting issues, Yogesh focused on capturing photos of the artists as they worked, as well as the completed pieces.

Later in the day, the photographers would swap roles, giving both of them a chance to experience the full range of responsibilities involved in the photography process. Despite the busy nature of their work, Yogesh and Samarjit were very friendly and respectful of the artists around them. They made sure not to disturb anyone while taking photos, and always ensured that each artist’s name was noted, so they could properly credit them for their work in the final photographs.

After spending time observing them, we have developed a deeper appreciation for what goes into each photograph. It's easy to assume that photography is just about clicking a button, but in reality, it’s an art form in itself. The attention to detail, the technical skills, and the teamwork required are much more complex than we originally thought. Photography, as we learned, is not just a job—it is truly an art in its own right.

The sweet scent of paint fumes and glue engulf the room as laughter and gossip echo. The teacher monitors, so kind and polite and ready to give advice. Catchy, energetic melodies play as the artists sing along. Tables are splattered with glossy paint and piled high with canvases representing each person’s thoughts and feelings. Colourful trash covers the floor. Some are mindlessly waiting for their reference while others are working tirelessly.

It's not just paintings our creative artists are doing. There is a whole team dedicated to making delicate flowers and reefs out of good old paper of course. Each artist has their perspective on the work. A few feel that this work is “forced” while the majority is satisfied with the task at hand. Predominantly people do understand the theme of Samanvay this year and are busy incorporating that in their art.

The conversations going on are deep. But on the contrary, the mood of the art room is lively and cheerful. Making being there a joyous and electric time.

All that we have mentioned is just a glimpse of what happens in the art room. The art room is a magical abode for those minds who think outside the box, think creatively and are ready to overcome any challenge. The art room is a place where dreams turn into a reality.
